PRIVACY STATEMENT
1. Your privacy is important
Protecting your privacy is important to the Black Music Alliance Australia Inc. (ABN 53 459 443 565) (BMAA). BMAA is committed to complying with the Australian Privacy Principles, and any other applicable legislation, in relation to its collection, use, disclosure and storage of personal information.
2. Collection of personal information
2.1 Personal information is information or an opinion about an individual who can reasonably
be identified, whether true or not, recorded in any form.
2.2 Additional protections apply to sensitive information – which is information or an opinion
about sensitive matters such as a person’s racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious
beliefs, sexual orientation or practice, criminal record or health information.
2.3 BMAA may collect personal information (including sensitive information) about you when
you:
2.3.1 become a member;
2.3.2 subscribe to our online industry directory;
2.3.3 contact us for any reason, including to inquire about our services or initiatives or
provide feedback;
2.3.4 attend an event hosted or sponsored by BMAA;
2.3.5 post or comment on our social media pages including by responding to our online
surveys;
2.3.6 Subscribe to our newsletter or make a donation via our website.
2.4 BMAA will almost always collect personal information directly from you. Information may be
collected from a third party, but only if necessary.
2.5 The information we collect is the information you share with us – for example, this might
include your name and contact details, your cultural background, information about your role
and experiences in the music industry and what support and initiatives you’d like to see from
the BMAA. If you’d prefer to provide your information anonymously, that will be accommodated where practicable.
3. Use and disclosure of personal information
3.1 BMAA uses personal information for purposes relevant to our functions and activities,
including for the following purposes:
3.1.1 with your consent, to add to its online industry directory available to members only,
to develop a platform to build community, facilitate connections and enable us to
communicate with industry leaders about our members’ talents;

3.1.2 to maintain a record of its membership;
3.1.3 to communicate with members and the public about the services and supports
BMAA can provide, or to provide those services or supports;
3.1.4 in connection with our initiatives, including to guide our strategy and developing
initiatives;
3.1.5 to meet accountability requirements of funding bodies and other legal or reporting
requirements; and
3.1.6 to secure funding.
3.2 We also use contact information for the purposes of keeping in touch with our community,
and updating you on exciting developments, new initiatives and opportunities. You may
remove yourself from any mailing lists or subscriptions at any time – the way to do so will be
set out in each communication.
3.3 It may be also necessary to share your personal information with the following third parties:
3.3.1 other industry leaders that BMAA intends on collaborating or participating in
partnerships with; or
3.3.2 contracted services providers – such as information and communication
technology providers, printers and mail houses, marketing and communications
agencies; research and statistical providers (however, information is de-identified
wherever practicable).
3.4 BMAA does not ordinarily disclose personal information to an overseas recipient and will not
do so without your consent. BMAA does not use overseas providers of IT services including
servers and cloud services.
4. Security of personal information
4.1 BMAA has systems in place to ensure that your personal information is stored securely on
BMAA’s digital servers so as to protect that information from misuse, loss or unauthorised
access. Information stored on BMAA’s digital servers is only accessible to the Secretary and
Public Officer of the BMAA Committee (and is password protected and regularly backed up).
Information is rarely stored in physical form, but if this is necessary, all precautions are taken
to protect its security (including use of encrypted USBs and locked storage).

4.2 You are generally able to access and update or correct any personal information that we
hold about you.
4.3 If you have any queries or concerns about the personal information that we hold about you
or the way we handle that personal information, or if you’d like to request access to or
correction of your information, please contact our Secretary and Public Officer
